New computer parts are on their way!

I finally got enough donations to order the parts I needed and they -should- be here monday(tomorrow!) but I don't think i'm going to beable to get a windows 7 OS disk like I wanted... I was going to borrow the money to get it but it turns out its actually 200 dollars, not 100(which is the upgrade version) so i'm not sure if my old OS disk(the one that came with my current prebuilt computer) will work or not..

Sigh, it feels like I'm cursed with computer problems. If none of you see me online for a while it may be because of things not working out.

Choose "Custom" on installation, and it will let you create a new windows 7 partition on your drive

  2. Oh that's an os disk, not just an upgrade disk? perhaps there's still hope then..

Can I use it to format my current hard drive? (I heard that's necessary when transfering an old HDD to a new computer)

  3. yes, in the custom setup feature, it allows you to format your drive, and save windows to that drive. it is not a "100%" os disk, about 90-95%, some features require an older version of windows, but all essential OS pieces are there, everything works, boots, no problems whatsoever.

  6. @Mark Hmm? Don't I need an OS disk to completely format? I would do it with the current os disk I have but...Its the crappy one that came with my prebuilt computer and last time I tried reformatting it almost didn't work at all.

  7. Formatting means completely deleting everything on the hard drive that is being formatted, you don't need a disk to do it, but you need an OS disk to install an os onto a formatted drive.

  8. Crap, can I format and install windows 7 with that disk you linked?

  9. You can download a Linux ISO for free and burn it to a CD (you can even use a thumb drive) from there you can use the terminal commands to format your hard drive.

  11. Hi Tyken! How are the parts of your computer now? I hope each one is still going very well. I also wish you could finally get the windows 7 OS disk that you like. But I think what Mark suggested can help you a lot.
